"Statistics are like bikinis. What they conceal is more important than what they reveal."

All of our sources are carefully selected. We only use data published by the world's most prestigious institutions. In layman's terms: virtually all statistics on this site are estimates and many have been manipulated (though not by us).

Or as Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965) once explained to a backbencher:

"The first lesson that you must learn is, when I call for statistics about the rate of infant mortality, what I want is proof that fewer babies died when I was Prime Minister than when anyone else was Prime Minister."

"We already have the statistics for the future: the growth percentages of pollution, overpopulation and desertification. The future is already in place."
